James Monroe

Monroe fought for George Washington in the army and studied law with Thomas Jefferson. Monroe was elected as the 5th president of the United States and was the last of the founding fathers. Some of his most notable accomplishments include the monroe doctrine along with expanding U.S territory by getting Florida from Spain. The monroe doctrine was key in forming the United States foreign policy. Monroe also came into presidency during an “era of good feeling” in which everything in the United States seemed to be going well, tensions were low, and there was only one political party that ruled. At this time, the democratic republicans had all of the power since the federalist party had disappeared.
