Economic Expansion
Thomas Jefferson abided by Washingtons’ Farewell Address to stay a neutral country, not to overly support a party and a president should resign after two terms. The Non-Intercourse Act of 1809 which allowed trade anywhere in the world except France, Great Britain and the West Indies contributed to the Industrial Revolution in America which strengthened America’s economy by boosting its self-sufficiency. Entrepreneurs including Eli Whitney and Robert Fulton Clermont also contributed to the improvement of the U.S economy. After the demise of the Federalist Party, the Democratic-Republican Party dominated politics and without a party system in place, politicians did not have to gather together to proffer voters a choice of ideologies and programs. During Monroe’s two terms as president an era of good feeling formed which created a sense of American pride and purpose.
